Green Tech Skillnet and Energy Storage Ireland are hosting a webinar with representatives from Granular Energy and Energy Tag on the potential for 24/7 clean energy matching in Ireland. The webinar will explore the need for 24/7 clean energy and the benefits this can bring to large energy users and renewable/energy storage developers and focus on the learnings from a recent pilot project in relation to the viability of hourly Guarantee of Origin (GO) certificates in Ireland. The webinar will also assess next steps for policy in Ireland and what needs to happen to unlock these opportunities for energy users and clean energy suppliers.

To support the Climate Action Plan (CAP) and align with EU-wide obligations, the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI), under the direction of the Department of Climate, Energy and the Environment (DCEE), published a report in late 2024 on enhanced electricity emissions reporting for LEUs. A central recommendation of the report is to upgrade the existing Guarantee of Origin (GO) scheme to enable the issuance of hourly time-stamped certificates, which would form the basis for Large Energy Users to report their hourly matching of renewable generation and consumption.

In response to stakeholder concerns about the feasibility of implementing an hourly GO scheme, Granular Energy launched a pilot in 2025 in collaboration with Grexel (Ireland’s current GO registry provider) and three of the country’s largest energy suppliers. The aim was to assess the practical viability of hourly GOs and develop informed recommendations based on the pilot’s outcomes.

The presentations will be followed by a Q&A session with attendees.
