On 06 December, Green Tech Skillnet (GTS) and Energy Storage Ireland (ESI) will be holding a networking event for invited guests from 5.30 pm in Dublin 2.

The event is being held to launch KPMG’s report on the Investment and Employment Potential in the Energy Storage Sector in Ireland.

In Ireland, the energy storage sector is in a relatively early stage, but will require a significant uplift in order for Ireland to meet its electricity system targets for 2030 and 2050, and to capture the potential of Ireland’s already relatively high exposure to the variability of renewable generation. In the context of the sector’s early stage development, there is a need to identify and grow the appropriate new skills and expertise to contribute to the development of a strong supply chain and workforce capable of growing the energy storage sector across the island of Ireland.

The objective of this study was to explore the opportunities for the energy storage sector in Ireland. In particular the report considers the following topics and questions:

• To identify the potential for employment opportunities in Ireland (e.g. grid, construction, advanced manufacturing)
• Supply-side skills development needs (e.g. research, training and development)
• The overall contribution to – and alignment with – Ireland’s decarbonisation targets

Through stakeholder surveys, interviews and research KPMG have developed a roadmap of actions that will be taken forward to help inform and develop the skills and expertise needed in the energy storage sector to support our decarbonisation goals.
